2015 Houston Art Car Parade Date Announcement

The Orange Show Announces New Date for the 28th Annual Houston Art Car Parade

HOUSTON – (September 8, 2014)  – The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, producers of the annual Houston Art Car Parade Weekend, announced today that the world-famous celebration of mobile masterpieces has received a new set of dates that are sure to please artists and audiences alike due to its generally cooler and less humid conditions. The 2015 Houston Art Car Parade will take place on Saturday, April 11th – with future Houston Art Car Parades taking place on the second weekend of April.

“Securing this date in April for the Houston Art Car Parade is a dream come true.  To be able to present the parade then will allow for a greater audience including those who could not or would not brave the heat in May,” said Don Mafrige, Jr., Orange Show Center for Visionary Art Board President-Elect and Chairman of Houston Art Car Weekend.  In recent years, the Houston Art Car Parade has also fallen on a weekend filled with community and family activities including college graduations and Mother’s Day. Lynette Wallace, Executive Director of the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art worked closely with the City of Houston over the past few months on coordinating the date change.  “We would like to thank the entire staff in the Mayor’s Office of Special Events for helping to make this come to fruition,” said Wallace. “Their continued support is invaluable to keeping this beloved Houston event rolling year after year.”

The 2014 Houston Art Car Parade saw attendance numbers of nearly 300,000 along Allen Parkway, making it one of the largest free events in Houston, and the Orange Show’s largest arts education outreach program. Over 270 entries participated and included anything on wheels – from modified cars and trucks, to bike and skater groups. Schools and youth groups often create some of the most memorable and exciting entries each year. Through a judging process, the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art also gave out nearly $17,000 in prizes.

The complete schedule of events for the 2015 Houston Art Car Parade is as follows:
