About the Entry:
Fly-pa-cat is a hybrid of the metamorphosis of a butterfly. Visually the car begins as a caterpillar, then morphs to its pupa stage and ends as the fully developed butterfly. The undercarriage of this vehicle began as a go-cart. Structurally, the body is made up of welded steel rods and hand fabricated metal components and plastics. The specific materials used are steel, aluminum sheeting, plastic, copper, rubber, paint, and metal screen. This sculptural transport began its formation in February 2002, completed in 3 months and is the project of two Houston women artists, Tisha Saam Browning and Audry Herber.
